As with so many other Impact100 SJ members, Jill Sayre Lawlor first learned about the organization from founding member Nancy Weber, whom Jill has known for many years. A few years back, Jennifer Fontaine was invited to attend the Impact100 Philadelphia annual meeting by her long-time friend and Philly Chapter member, Kim Moon. “It was such a great night — I loved seeing the power of women combining their talents and funds and working together. Elizabeth Kennedy had never heard of the concept of collective giving before reading an article about Impact100 South Jersey in the Philadelphia Inquirer in the fall of 2018. She found the idea interesting and reached out to the journalist, Kevin Riordan, who then connected her to Nancy Weber. After meeting Nancy and learning more, Elizabeth recognized membership as a great educational opportunity to learn critical skills for assessing nonprofits. BEYOND THE CHECK: An Evening In The Wild

Gathered around a campfire and greeted by Phoebe the skunk (scent glands removed!), Impact100 SJ members enjoyed an evening in nature with 2021 grantee Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Over a casual dinner, wine, and s’mores we learned that the refuge sees and treats over 6,000 wild animals annually and reorients animals that have lost their natural survival ability. The goal is to release them back to the wild when ready, but some become residents at the refuge if they are unable to return to their natural habitats.
