As with so many other Impact100 SJ members, Jill Sayre Lawlor first learned about the organization from founding member Nancy Weber, whom Jill has known for many years. Jill received a call from Nancy and, after attending an information session in 2019, Jill joined and has been active in the organization ever since. “When I joined, I realized I already knew so many members whose professional and personal accomplishments are inspiring to me. A few years back, Jennifer Fontaine was invited to attend the Impact100 Philadelphia annual meeting by her long-time friend and Philly Chapter member, Kim Moon. “It was such a great night — I loved seeing the power of women combining their talents and funds and working together. I also loved learning about that year’s finalists — nonprofits I had not heard of before. Donna Siegel Moffa has a long history of involvement in non-profit organizations. And when she heard about Impact100 SJ from friend Elizabeth Mangino Wallace, she immediately knew it was an organization she wanted to join. “I was drawn by the notion of women doing something collectively to have a significant local impact. Women aren’t always recognized for their philanthropic efforts. Elizabeth Kennedy had never heard of the concept of collective giving before reading an article about Impact100 South Jersey in the Philadelphia Inquirer in the fall of 2018. She found the idea interesting and reached out to the journalist, Kevin Riordan, who then connected her to Nancy Weber. After meeting Nancy and learning more, Elizabeth recognized membership as a great educational opportunity to learn critical skills for assessing nonprofits. She loved that the impact made by the grants was local and addressed the needs of the community, but joining also would meet her own desire to be more educated about philanthropy, particularly collective giving. BEYOND THE CHECK: An Evening In The Wild

Gathered around a campfire and greeted by Phoebe the skunk (scent glands removed!), Impact100 SJ members enjoyed an evening in nature with 2021 grantee Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Over a casual dinner, wine, and s’mores we learned that the refuge sees and treats over 6,000 wild animals annually and reorients animals that have lost their natural survival ability. The goal is to release them back to the wild when ready, but some become residents at the refuge if they are unable to return to their natural habitats. Staff shared information about their educational programs for students and for scouts and other community groups before leading members on a night hike through a trail in their 171 acres of preserved Pinelands. The $50,000 grant from Impact100 supports the educational programs.…

Another Way Impact100 Members Support Grantee Farmers Against Hunger

BEYOND THE CHECK: 5,400 pounds of butternut squash provides a lot of nutrient dense, versatile food for families in need as well as a great workout for those gathering it. And a workout is just what 11 members of Impact100 SJ got when they gleaned at Grasso Girls Farm in Mullica Hill with Farmers Against Hunger! (See photos below.) Farmers Against Hunger, one of our 2021 grantees, executes excellent programs and solutions to food waste in the State of New Jersey and creates a pathway for redistributing nutritious produce to food banks and soup kitchens around the state. Congratulations to Kyle Ruffin for receiving Philanos' first Willoughby Award for Leadership In Women's Philanthropy. Philanos is the national organization for women's giving circles around the world. This inaugural award in honor of Colleen S. Willoughby, the founder of both the Washington Women's Foundation and Philanos, honors visionary women leaders in philanthropy who, like Colleen, have taken the field into exciting, new directions. Kyle (pictured with Impact100 South Jersey President Judy Greenberg) is a founding member of Impact100 South Jersey, a member of the Leadership Council and Chair of the Communications Committee, vice chair of the Community Foundation of South Jersey and Board Member for the African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey.
