The Alice Paul Institute (API) is celebrating its 40th year of furthering the work of local Equal Rights champion, Alice Paul. Educating women, of all ages, API seeks to create change through knowledge, tools and connection.

API is currently looking for volunteer docents to welcome visitors, lead tours and help at their gift shop. If you are interested in helping our 2020 grantee as a docent or in other ways, please check out their volunteer page for additional information.

Big Brothers Big Sister of Cumberland & Salem Counties

Cathedral Kitchen

In 2020 we support Cathedral Kitchen (CK) with a special grant to help them meet the needs of Camden’s food insecure residents during the pandemic. Cathedral Kitchen is the largest emergency food provider in Camden, NJ, serving more than 100,000 meals a year, and “volunteers are the heartbeat of the kitchen.”

Volunteers save many thousands of dollars in staffing costs by preparing and serving meals, cleaning up after meal service, picking up and delivering donated food or helping at the annual fundraiser. Two shifts are availabe for food service: 1-2:30 PM to set up the dining room before doors are open, and 2:30-5:30 PM to prepare, serve, and clean up after meal service.

Looking for a group volunteer activity with friends, family, or a community group? CK is a great organization to hold drives for food or personal care items, or make sandwiches for distribution to community members in need. Learn more and contact CK to sign up and volunteer.

Heart of Camden

Our 2023 Core Mission grantee needs skilled volunteers and board members. Put your skills to work assisting Heart of Camden (HoC) which helps children and families by providing affordable housing, community development and direct family services. HoC needs assistance specifically in the areas of accounting, financial management or strategic planning — either as part of its Board or as a volunteer on the Finance Committee. If this describes you, fill out their volunteer form to learn more.

If your time is limited but you want to help, holding a drive to collect items (ex. coat drive) for community needs is a great way to provide support too. HoC staff will be happy to work with you to organize a drive.

LUCY Outreach

2020 grantee LUCY serves hundreds of young people each year from elementary school age through college.

Have a skill or hobby you would love to share? Examples of activities you can bring to LUCY youth are gardening, bootcamp workouts, coding, tennis, dancing, bike rides, art, meditation/mindfulness, swimming and cooking — to name a few!

The High School students at LUCY would benefit from college and career support from mentors who can help them with financial aid applications, college essays, and college applications, as well as navigating the many career options that don’t require a college degree.
