BEYOND THE CHECK: 1,000 Produce Bags As Good as Gold to Farmers Against Hunger

Beyond The Check
Sophia Buckalew (pictured), Farmers Against Hunger (FAH) Logistics Director for the NJ Agricultural Society, was on hand on June 14th at the FAH headquarters site in Delran to unload an SUV packed to the hilt with cloth/canvas produce bags. FAH was one of our 2021 $50,000 General Operating Grant recipients. Impact100 South Jersey Nonprofit Outreach Committee member Karen Swartley coordinated a member-wide drive to collect the needed bags for FAH. Our Impact100 SJ members came through — and in a big way! Some 1,000 bags were donated that will be used to tote more than one half million pounds of fresh produce from FAH partner farms to families that are food insecure this growing season. That’s a lot of bags — and a lot of produce.  No longer having a ready…

GRANTEE SPOTLIGHT: 2022 $100k Grantee Preparing to Build the Impact100 SJ Wing

Beyond The Check, Grants
Impact100 South Jersey’s 2022 Core Mission grantee, Boys & Girls Clubs of Cumberland County (BGCCC), has had a busy year since our 2022 Annual Meeting. In addition to rebuilding their post-pandemic, in-person youth enrollment, they have been working with their local government to secure permits and an architect to design an addition to the youth center that our $100,000 grant funded. The addition, to be called the Impact100SJ wing, will substantially expand the size of the Club's current Youth for Change Center, enabling them to serve a greater number of local children and teens. The Club’s main building in Vineland, which was previously a credit union, has limited square footage and has proved challenging to serve young people of various ages. The expansion will help the Club build capacity by…

Member Profiles
Introduced to Impact100 South Jersey via casual conversations with several existing members, Michele warmed to the idea of becoming a part of a women’s philanthropic group that makes a reverberating impact throughout the South Jersey region. Michele’s interest was piqued by attending one of the organization’s annual membership information sessions, traditionally held during the Fall months. She filled in some of the gaps of the grantmaking process and felt led to unite with the purpose-driven group’s mission. While Michele is no stranger to charitable giving, she recognized the greater impact she could have by joining forces with other local women for the greater good, to truly make a lasting impact for our South Jersey neighbors. Testing fate, Michele relays the story of the first informational call on which then-Impact 100…
