Lois Greco has been a member of Impact100 SJ since its inaugural year, 2018.  After initial hesitation, Lois enthusiastically joined for two reasons: Kyle Ruffin asked her and she recognized that women’s collective philanthropy aligned perfectly with her values.  Lois is passionate about inspiring generosity, creating a culture of philanthropy, and building community.  Being a member of Impact100 SJ is one more way she can fulfill her mission of making the world more beautiful.  She has spent more than 2 decades of her professional life building her legacy and continues to do so on a personal level. Being in community with women whom she knew professionally, but now gets to know more personally is an extension of that work.   Lois is very excited by the concept that women’s membership can be sponsored.  This is especially important…

This is Valerie Buickerood’s second year as a member of Impact100 SJ and the nonprofit executive couldn’t be more excited or grateful. Valerie is Director of Engagement and Communications at Hopeworks 'N Camden, where the economic fallout from COVID-19 has been devastating for many families. But Hopeworks is keeping its young people employed through the pandemic. It’s thanks to the organization’s solid financial base, and Hopeworks’ new Camden Capacity Fund which is raising money to provide free professional services to other Camden non-profits that will continue to keep youth employed in their social enterprises.  “It’s this kind of creative thinking that makes Hopeworks such a dynamic organization,” Valerie says “and one of the qualities that won us the admiration of Impact100 SJ.” The Camden non-profit was selected as Impact100 SJ’s…

Valeria Galarza is a new member to Impact100 SJ, having joined for the 2020 Grant Year. She learned about Impact100 South Jersey from a colleague at a meeting where they were discussing local fundraising efforts and ideas. She was impressed with this local movement of women making a difference towards a common goal and wanted to contribute to further support our communities and nonprofits that do such important work. Val is a Principal Consultant at ALTA Impact Partners. She has been in the nonprofit sector for 20 years, most recently with Cooper’s Ferry Partnership in Camden, before founding ALTA. Val feels that the most rewarding aspect of being a member is being able to think strategically about how and where to invest funding where it is most needed. She shared…

WHY WE GIVE Event Postponed

SJ WOMEN GIVE
Due to rapidly escalating health concerns relating to the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), the “WHY WE GIVE” Planning Committee has decided to POSTPONE the event scheduled for Friday, March 20th at Rowan College at Burlington County. The decision to postpone was not taken lightly.  We recognize and acknowledge the inconvenience this postponement may cause. However, this decision was made out of concern for the health and well-being of our attendees, our speakers and the South Jersey community.  The WHY WE GIVE Planning Committee is working to secure a new date. We hope to be able to share new details within the next two to three weeks after we confer with key event participants about their schedules. On behalf of our hard-working Planning Committee, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work…

So many members have heard how Kyle feels about Impact100. As one of the founders and info session presenters, Kyle shares her feelings about the initiative she helped give birth to and the pride and joy it brings. In her words, Kyle tells us how Impact100 is about living out her purpose. "I come from a long line of people who put others first. My parents and extended family, by example, taught me that a life well-lived is one that makes others smile, suffer less or supports them as they work to achieve their goals. It was a lesson that, until recently, I'm not sure I even realized was being beamed into my head. Through reflective hindsight, I now see that I've always found a way to insert service to…

Grants, SJ WOMEN GIVE
Here's how Big Brothers Big Sisters and Hopeworks have been able to meet more needs and support more people with the collective funds we awarded each organization. Our 2019 grantee, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland and Salem Counties, continues to recruit Big Brothers and Big Sisters for the first year of their Mentor2.0 program. It is rolling out with 46 students who attend Vineland High School. The students have a Mentor 2.0 class every Thursday co-taught by a BBBS Mentor 2.0 Program Manager and a Vineland High School teacher. In November, the students started to be matched with their Bigs. Says BBBSCS CEO Donna Bennett, "We have received great support from the school district during this process and everyone involved is excited about the Mentor2.0 program."
