Congratulations to Kyle Ruffin for receiving Philanos' first Willoughby Award for Leadership In Women's Philanthropy. Philanos is the national organization for women's giving circles around the world. This inaugural award in honor of Colleen S. Willoughby, the founder of both the Washington Women's Foundation and Philanos, honors visionary women leaders in philanthropy who, like Colleen, have taken the field into exciting, new directions.   Kyle (pictured with Impact100 South Jersey President Judy Greenberg) is a founding member of Impact100 South Jersey, a member of the Leadership Council and Chair of the Communications Committee, vice chair of the Community Foundation of South Jersey and Board Member for the African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey.   She also, along with other local women, spearheaded  "WHY WE GIVE: South Jersey Women Who Give Back" in October of 2020, an event that brought together diverse groups of women givers. Her tireless efforts…

After nearly 40 years of living and working in South Jersey, which included years of involvement in the Jewish Community, it was membership in Impact100 SJ that led Nina Cohen to realize there was much about South Jersey that she did not know. She shared that, “becoming a member offered me the opportunity to learn about and meet others in the region’s nonprofit and philanthropic community and connect with a broader circle of women to support causes in South Jersey.” As Director of Endowment & Foundation Advisory at Glenmede, Nina and her team manage investments and advise nonprofits and foundations and also guide individuals and families in creating their philanthropic missions and strategies. Though Rosemarie Parker is a relatively new member, she has already realized the significant effect Impact100 South Jersey has on supporting area nonprofits in their ability to serve the community.  Rosemarie began her relationship with Impact when she applied for an annual grant for the nonprofit Family Promise of Southwest New Jersey. The organization received a $43,000 grant from Impact100 South Jersey in 2020. "I got to know some of the women through the application process and was so impressed with their genuine passion for the work they are doing," Rosemarie said. Rosemarie served as a member of the Education Grant Review committee this past cycle. "I find it very rewarding knowing that I played a small part in the future of their programs," she added.  She was so impressed by the process;…

Catherine Allen-Carlozo has been a member of Impact100 South Jersey since 2019.  She had heard from several members she knew about how Impact100 South Jersey was making a difference in the community. However, attending the annual meeting and watching the grant awards process convinced her of the true power of the organizations.  "It is one of the few organizations I know that has such a collective drive that each one of us feels like we made a huge difference with our contribution. It has a purposeful goal of how the recipient applies for the grant, what it will be used for, and how each member votes on the final awards.  We know that our donation will be utilized the way it was intended.  Many large organizations are not transparent about where the…

Before having children and a demanding career, Jamilah Talton found plenty of time to use her skills in marketing and communications volunteering with both national and local nonprofits.  A few of the organizations she contributed her time and skills to were Darfur Alert (Philadelphia Chapter), Manna, and the Salvation Army. But having 2 children and working long hours as a cyber security professional, her time has been at a premium for the last decade or so. Impact100 SJ offered Jamilah an opportunity to revive her passion for giving back and to contribute both financially and with her time in a way that fits in her current life.   Jamilah was introduced to Impact100 SJ by her friend and member Lauren Regina.  Lauren invited her to attend a networking event at the Chop House…

If anyone knows about the awesome power of a committed group of women, it’s Lucy Beard.  Having served as the Executive Director of the Alice Paul Institute (API) for 9 years and being involved in the women’s organization in various capacities for more than 2 decades, and having earned a Masters Degree in American History with an emphasis on women’s history, Lucy has seen time and again that women have always been drivers of change - they just didn’t own it and didn’t get the credit deserved.  So after learning about the Impact100 model in Philadelphia, she and her longtime friend and colleague Kim Moon sought to start a South Jersey collective.  Little did they know at that time, an Impact100 SJ was already in the works at the Community Foundation of South…

In 2015, the seed was planted for what would ultimately become Impact 100 South Jersey.  As a founding member of Impact, Theresa and the other founding members watered the seed, and their labor, along with those who came along side of them, produced a new source of funding for the good work being done in the South Jersey community.  The basis of a women’s giving circle was supported by the Community Foundation of South Jersey.  The goal was to establish a fund within CFSJ that would support not for profits that do great work throughout South Jersey.  After many meetings and conversations, Impact was born. Theresa hosted the first-ever informational launch event at her home in September 2017. “Needless to say, I was overly impressed that $74,000 was raised for the initial grant…

Lisa Paparone joined Impact100 South Jersey the year the group was formed.  I was drawn to the idea of pooling money from various donors so one large donation could be made. "The word 'impact' is so perfect because that’s exactly what this organization does — it creates a way for donors to make a real impact with their donation," said Lisa. As an accountant, Lisa has helped guide the organization as a member of the Financial Review Committee.  Also, with her background, Lisa added, “After having seen how Impact100 works and how the recipient organizations have benefited, I’m even more attracted to the idea of collective giving.” Lisa has her own business which keeps her quite busy during tax season.   Having “survived” the last two tax seasons, which were substantially more challenging than…

Our Littles, Bigs, professional program staff, Board, and families are grateful for our $100,000 grant for our pilot Mentor2.0 program. It truly has been a game-changing shift of the paradigm. Not only did Impact100’s grant enable us to launch a pilot program to partner with a local high school to match a group of students with college-educated mentors and career professionals, and it also prepared us for a virtual and hybrid world the pandemic propelled us into.Mentor2.0 combines in-classroom curriculum, virtual communications on a proprietary platform and monthly in-person activities for the Big and Little. For our agency, this grant has allowed us to think innovatively as we work to serve more youth. For our community, this…
