Written by Ginny Delong Heart of Camden, the Impact100 South Jersey 2023 $100,000 Core Mission grantee, is making progress expanding programs and services provided by their Bridge Builders Project at the Michael J. Doyle (MJD) Fieldhouse. The core of their mission is to Improve the lives of women, children, and families living in low-to-moderate income households in the Waterfront South neighborhood, South Camden, and the City of Camden as a whole. Critical services provided by the Bridge Builders Project serve as a bridge to connect outside volunteers and supporters, educating them about the city and building stronger connections with the community. In mid-2021, as New Jersey prepared to lift its COVID-19 eviction moratorium. Impact100 South Jersey member Rosemarie Parker, CEO of Family Promise of Southwest New Jersey, foresaw an impending housing crisis. With rental rates left unchecked by state legislation, Parker knew the coming months would bring skyrocketing housing costs and a surge of eviction cases. Courts began to see an influx, with judges hearing up to 75 cases daily. Parker and her dedicated team sprang into action, striving to help the increasing number of families in need navigate this daunting legal landscape. At our 2024 Annual Meeting on June 12th, we awarded $185,000 to six organizations that serve our region. The grand total our members have awarded to 21 local organizations since 2018 is now $1,220,360. The members of Impact100 South Jersey have selected the organizations to support with their collective contributions of $185,000. The six grants awarded at the June 12 Annual Meeting bring Impact100 South Jersey's total grantmaking amount to $1,220,360 since 2018. Congratulations to all of our phenomenal grantees! We are thrilled to announce that CASA of Atlantic, Cape May and Camden Counties received our $100,000 Core Mission Grant. CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, will use the money to expand their presence in Camden County. The grant will be used to increase visibility and improve access for children they serve and volunteers that fulfill their mission by securing a Camden-area office. They will also recruit more CASA volunteers to support children as they travel through the court system. Two $27,500…
Impact100 South Jersey’s 2020 general operating grantee, Alice Paul Institute (API), celebrated its 40th anniversary in January with an open house at the newly renovated Paulsdale. Paulsdale is a National Historic Landmark and the home of local suffragist, feminist and political strategist, Alice Paul. API honors Alice Paul’s legacy through its commitment to education and leadership development through school programs, Scout programs and the Girls Leadership Council (GLC). API’s School Group Programming offers assemblies and in class programs to classes K-12, as well as field trips to Paulsdale. Younger girls and boys are introduced to the concept of civic engagement and creating positive social change through games and art. Programs for older students focus on the history of suffrage, voting, citizenship, integrity, leadership and social action. We are excited to share another story of growth and impact powered in part by Impact100 South Jersey members and grants! Impact100 South Jersey funded the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland & Salem Counties (BBBS) Mentor2.0 program through a Core Mission grant of $100,000 in 2019 and a general operating grant of $55,500 in 2023. To date, 100 mentees have participated in the Mentor2.0 program. The program offers a great opportunity to make a big impact on a young life with limited in person hours. Mentor2.0 has a robust software component that provides an efficient way to mentor a high school student as they plan for their future and Zoom options for meetings. This is great activity for the kids or grand kids! We’ll gather at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 1st in the new covered pavilion that an Impact100 SJ grant helped to fund. We’ll return there after about a one-hour hike for cold drinks and lunch. Cedar Run features 171 acres of protected “Green Acres” Pinelands habitat.
