How Our First Grant Helped Transform The Organization In 2018, Impact100SJ awarded our very first grant of $74,000 to Hopeworks ‘N Camden, a Camden-based organization that provides young people ages 17-26 with training in coding, web development and entrepreneurship. At the time, Hopeworks had been operating for many years out of a row home in Camden, but they had outgrown it. More young people than could fit into its space wanted to participate in its training opportunities. Hopeworks had obtained a larger space but needed funding to fit out and develop the space with desks, learning stations, technology training curriculum and software to better prepare its young people for a range of well-paying jobs. Since 2020, Family Promise of Southwest New Jersey has been awarded $143,000 in Impact100 South Jersey grants. The mission of Family Promise, which is located in Gloucester County, is to provide homeless families an opportunity to achieve stability by providing shelter, food, case management, and hospitality while simultaneously using resources within local congregations and the community. ​ In 2020, Family Promise was a finalist, and in 2021, they were awarded our $100,000 Core Mission grant. The goal of the project for which they received the Core Mission Grant focuses on Family Promise's shelter reduction plan, which aims to reduce the number of home-insecure families with whom they work from entering shelters, and instead help them work to stabilize their existing housing situation. Gathered around a campfire and greeted by Phoebe the skunk (scent glands removed!), Impact100 SJ members enjoyed an evening in nature with 2021 grantee Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge.  Over a casual dinner, wine, and s’mores we learned that the refuge sees and treats over 6,000 wild animals annually and reorients animals that have lost their natural survival ability. The goal is to release them back to the wild when ready, but some become residents at the refuge if they are unable to return to their natural habitats. Staff shared information about their educational programs for students and for scouts and other community groups before leading members on a night hike through a trail in their 171 acres of preserved Pinelands. BEYOND THE CHECK: 5,400 pounds of butternut squash provides a lot of nutrient dense, versatile food for families in need as well as a great workout for those gathering it.  And a workout is just what 11 members of Impact100 SJ got when they gleaned at Grasso Girls Farm in Mullica Hill with Farmers Against Hunger! (See photos below.) Congratulations to Kyle Ruffin for receiving Philanos' first Willoughby Award for Leadership In Women's Philanthropy. Philanos is the national organization for women's giving circles around the world. This inaugural award in honor of Colleen S. Willoughby, the founder of both the Washington Women's Foundation and Philanos, honors visionary women leaders in philanthropy who, like Colleen, have taken the field into exciting, new directions.   Kyle (pictured with Impact100 South Jersey President Judy Greenberg) is a founding member of Impact100 South Jersey, a member of the Leadership Council and Chair of the Communications Committee, vice chair of the Community Foundation of South Jersey and Board Member for the African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey.   She also, along with other local women, spearheaded  "WHY WE GIVE: South Jersey Women Who Give Back" in October of 2020, an event that brought together diverse groups of women givers. Her tireless efforts…

From our 2019 Core Mission Grantee Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland & Salem Counties... Our Littles, Bigs, professional program staff, Board, and families are grateful for our $100,000 grant for our pilot Mentor2.0 program. It truly has been a game-changing shift of the paradigm. Not only did Impact100’s grant enable us to launch a pilot program to partner with a local high school to match a group of students with college-educated mentors and career professionals, and it also prepared us for a virtual and hybrid world the pandemic propelled us into.Mentor2.0 combines in-classroom curriculum, virtual communications on a proprietary platform and monthly in-person activities for the Big and Little.
