BEYOND THE CHECK: Ways to Support Grantee Ronald McDonald House

BEYOND THE CHECK: Ways to Support Grantee Ronald McDonald House

Beyond The Check
2019 General Operating grantee Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey offers hope, help, and home for families of seriously ill children. They do this by providing accommodations for families and pediatric patients who receive treatment at local hospitals within the Philadelphia region. It is proven that children heal faster and parents experience less stress when they are together during times of critical illness or traumatic injury. In 2019, RMHSNJ applied for $100,000 to replace carpet throughout the facility with engineered hard wood floors that would be easier to clean and maintain. Although they were awarded a $27,500 general operating grant, a generous Impact100 South Jersey member whose family owned a flooring business completed the project for $27,500. BEYOND THE CHECK: Grantee Cathedral Kitchen Needs Summer Volunteers

BEYOND THE CHECK: Grantee Cathedral Kitchen Needs Summer Volunteers

Beyond The Check
During the pandemic, our events were canceled while demands on organizations like Cathedral Kitchen (CK) were skyrocketing. In 2020, Impact100 South Jersey was proud to redirect event money to provide a special grant to Cathedral Kitchen contributing to their ability to provide meals at a critical time. But it's no secret that they provide meals for thousands of individuals and families year round. During the summer months, Cathedral Kitchen has an even greater need for volunteers for their meal service and for in-kind donations.  While many folks go on vacation, the work at CK continues and THEY NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR THE SUMMER!!!!  You can sign up once or you can make it a part of your volunteer schedule. Volunteer opportunities are available for viewing and scheduling on their website, under…

BEYOND THE CHECK: 1,000 Produce Bags As Good as Gold to Farmers Against Hunger

Beyond The Check
Sophia Buckalew (pictured), Farmers Against Hunger (FAH) Logistics Director for the NJ Agricultural Society, was on hand on June 14th at the FAH headquarters site in Delran to unload an SUV packed to the hilt with cloth/canvas produce bags. FAH was one of our 2021 $50,000 General Operating Grant recipients. Impact100 South Jersey Nonprofit Outreach Committee member Karen Swartley coordinated a member-wide drive to collect the needed bags for FAH. Our Impact100 SJ members came through — and in a big way! Some 1,000 bags were donated that will be used to tote more than one half million pounds of fresh produce from FAH partner farms to families that are food insecure this growing season. That’s a lot of bags — and a lot of produce.  No longer having a ready…

GRANTEE SPOTLIGHT: 2022 $100k Grantee Preparing to Build the Impact100 SJ Wing

Beyond The Check, Grants
Impact100 South Jersey’s 2022 Core Mission grantee, Boys & Girls Clubs of Cumberland County (BGCCC), has had a busy year since our 2022 Annual Meeting. In addition to rebuilding their post-pandemic, in-person youth enrollment, they have been working with their local government to secure permits and an architect to design an addition to the youth center that our $100,000 grant funded. The addition, to be called the Impact100SJ wing, will substantially expand the size of the Club's current Youth for Change Center, enabling them to serve a greater number of local children and teens. The Club’s main building in Vineland, which was previously a credit union, has limited square footage and has proved challenging to serve young people of various ages. The expansion will help the Club build capacity by…

BEYOND THE CHECK: Farmers Against Hunger Delivers Despite Challenging Conditions

Beyond The Check, Grants
NJ Agricultural Society's Farmers Against Hunger program (FAH), a 2021 Impact100 South Jersey General Operating Grantee, has been working through a perfect storm of national challenges at the local level. Meeting the needs of struggling farmers, families, and community organizations facing a pandemic, inflation, and drought made their programs even more critical to the region. But they have shown up and flexed to meet the demand. New Jersey farmers faced so many obstacles this year and many were not able to offer the amount of surplus crops that they have in the past. Abnormal climate conditions, such as early spring followed by spring frost that damaged plantings, combined with drought later in the season, made growing conditions extremely challenging. On top of that, inflation, which affected fuel costs for tractors…

BEYOND THE CHECK: Yogas & Alpacas at Ronald McDonald House

Beyond The Check, Grants
How to bring joy to kids?  Bring Alpacas to Ronald McDonald House. YES, Alapacas. Supporting our grantees and their missions can take many forms. Impact100 South Jersey Nonprofit Outreach Committee Co-Chair Sue Levy-Polikoff arranged a visit from Morning Glori Farmette located in Marlton, NJ for the first ever Alpaca visit. Rocky and Party Crasher were a big hit, even though some families were a bit apprehensive in the beginning. During another visit, Sue taught Yoga to parents, staff and some of the kids who are undergoing treatment or post op treatment/therapy at local hospitals." I don't think the parents realized how much they needed this till they noticed their bodies starting to relax which is huge." Levy-Polikoff also created activity packets for the kids that included word search with yoga words…
