2023-24 MEMBERS & SPONSORS: Join us Thursday, August 10th from 9 to 11 AM at Rancocas Creek Farm in Southampton. This is an opportunity to go beyond the check for TWO of our grantees. We’ll be harvesting food for NJ Agricultural Society’s Farmers Against Hunger (FAH) program, which will then be distributed to local organizations that feed people in need. Rancocas Creek Farm is a project launched by 2022 grantee the Pinelands Preservation Alliance (PPA) in 2020 on the 72-acre property that adjoins PPA headquarters in Southampton.

This is a great opportunity to be part of FAH & PPA’s missions, increase your impact beyond the check, and spend a summer morning on the farm with fellow members.

What is “Gleaning?”

Gleaning is the act of collecting the remaining crops from farm fields, after the commercial harvesting process is complete. The practice dates back to early civilizations. In fact, the Hebrew Bible and Old Testament command that farmers leave the corners of their fields unharvested, and do not return to gather any produce that is dropped or overlooked in the initial harvest. These crops (“gleanings”) are to be left for the poor, strangers, and others in need, to freely pick from the remnants left in harvested fields.

FAH relies on volunteer gleaners to reduce food waste and help ease food insecurity in underserved communities. Click here to learn more about gleaning and FAH.
